London is the perfect place to visit with kids. As a perfect city for both outdoor walks, educational tours and indoor family activities, you’ll never be short of things to do which take into account all ages. However long your visit, the one problem that always comes up when visiting such a large city is where the best area to stay is. London spans a good 1000 square kilometres if you include the vast swathes of outer London. This makes for a lot of choice for borough accommodation, and whilst some areas of the city are best suited for business travellers and plenty for late night revellers, family accommodation can be a little tricky to navigate.
Below are some of the top examples of family friendly neighbourhoods and easy to reach hotel hubs.
When we say Waterloo, we are also talking about the Southbank area. With great links into the city both by foot and public transport, you’ll find plenty to do in the evenings when staying in this area. With a range of hotels spanning the simple and function to the luxury hotels for families, Waterloo Station is a well station, with plenty to do in the immediate area.
If you’re looking for a little more peace and quiet, some of the best London Hotel deals can be found in the Paddington area. With great walks through the canals of Little Venice and quirky riverside cafes and bars, Paddington Station also offers up one of the best loved fictional figures for all ages, Paddington Bear! The Paddington Bear statue in the station of the same name, paired with the Paddington themed shop close by, is must for any fan of the books and films.
Located just down the road from Kings Cross and Angel, Highbury is a well connected and beautiful area of North London. With a range of fringe theatres, restaurants and parks, Highbury is always rife with tourists looking for a taste of the refined side of the city.
Based in South East, Greenwich park and the Cutty sark are a London must for any first timer. The views from Greenwich Park give some of the best cityscapes over London, whilst the historic observatory is also well worth a visit. The clean, quiet streets of Greenwich ensure a good night’s rest.
Another Southeast gem, the area of Forest Hill has a wide range of hotels and deals, alongside some of the best dining in the Southeast of London. On top of this, the nearby Horniman Museum is a quirky hidden gem which all families should visit. With a wide range of taxidermy, historic musical instruments and temporary exhibitions ranging from robots to plantlife, Forest Hill is well worth a few days.
South Kensington is well known for its wide array of museums, alongside the iconic Albert Hall. A stone’s throw from Hyde Park, there’s more than enough to keep the kids happy for even a two week visit.
Another area of the city which is slightly tucked away in the South East, Crystal Palace has great rail connections into the centre, alongside quiet streets and large parks. Check out Crystal Palace Park for their (slightly dated) Victorian models of Dinosaurs, alongside a maze and vast playing fields.
